Making The Bee Coasters

Time to make a run of ceramic coasters with Bee imagery.  I have taken some images from my most popular Bee paintings and applied them to ceramic tiles to make coasters.  Each one is printed with archival ink, coated with a durable resin, hand buffed to a matte finish, and backed with a square of cork.  There is alot of hand work in these little beauties!

Commissioned Piece

This is a piece that I have started as a speculative commission for a Real Estate office in Palos Verdes California.  They wanted to show the house that actually hug the coast line in this part of the area.  If completed and approved it will be scanned and made into a large format 48" canvas print for the entry way of the office

Custom Frame Making

Old World Frame Making

I have never been satisfied with the frames that are available on the market.  I like to taylor a frame for the specific piece of artwork that will go in it.  Thus, I have started to make my own frames.  They start with Bass wood in various profiles.  I then can use various finishing techniques such as foil application and decorative finishes.  This way I can control the subtle coloring that will enhance the painting that is featured.

New Series of Paintings Started

Today I began the first painting in what I hope will become a series.  I had some photographs of flowers that were arranged in a large glass bowl/vase.  I liked the abstract quality of the image and the patterns of light and shapes that filtered through the water and glass.  The colors are very subtle, grays and greens with some grayed reds, right up my alley colorwise.  Anyways I will give it a shot and then hopefully make a series.

Oak in Encaustic

This is a photo that I hve reproduced before on photo paper.  I used it in a encaustic process.  The finish and soft imakge makes for a pretty cool effect.  24x36
